Travel Arizona – It’s A State Of Mind

Arizona was never a state with too terribly much to recommend it, tourism-wise. But their image to many as a collection of holes in the desert surrounded by rednecks and party schools hasn’t been helped by recent events. Lawmaking advertising the state to be at least 51% a-hole has many in the country scrambling to boycott a state it was always kind of easy to forget about in the first place.

And as repellent as the new laws are, we must at some point recognize the true victims here–the hardworking folks at the Arizona Tourism Office. They’ve been putting lipstick on that pig for a long time now, this recent crap must have them rushing to send out resumes to more desirable tourist destinations. Like say, Jersey.

Good luck, guys.

    @steev2300 I know …
    @steev2300 I know you are being disingenuous because you use the term “immigrants” when we are clearly talking about illegal immigrants. The US is not improved when drug violence, slavery, human smuggling, murder, rape, and terrorism can’t be dealt with because we can’t control or even know who is coming in. Until the border is closed to all but legal immigrants, you will have more states do the federal government’s job and do so with high approval.

  3. @atablarasa No it …
    @atablarasa No it does not violate the 4th Amendment. SB 1070 states the must be reasobable suspicion, just like the 4th Amendment states. What part of that don’t you understand? If you are stopped in a vehicle, you are asked for 3 things, your DL, Insurance and Registration. Why is that so difficult for illegal immigrants to do, other than they either don’t have them, or they are fraudulent.

  4. If you don’t break …
    If you don’t break the law, then you don’t have to worry about being “detained” now do you? If you are breaking the laws, then and only then, do you have to worry about being deported if you are not a legal citizen. What’s the big deal?

  5. @Majorsushifan …
    @Majorsushifan that’s simply untrue. it’s a myth & lazy thinking that immigrants make it worse when they move here. The U.S. is actually improved in many ways, including economically, by immigrants. u r also wrong about improvement in Mexico. Remittances back to Mexico from migrants amount to many billions of dollars, a larger portion of their economy than anything other than oil & drugs. That money goes into improving the homes & towns where they came from.

  6. not true. you’re …
    not true. you’re talking myths.

  7. People keep arguing …
    People keep arguing about this stupid law.
    It’s another ploy to keep you ignoring the real problem.
    THE COMPANIES!
    Come on people! Wake the up.
    It’s not the illegal immigrants fault…IT’S THE PEOPLE WHO HIRE THEM!
    Do you think they’d still come here if there were no jobs for them?

    @steev2300 You …
    @steev2300 You proved my point despite your best efforts. Mexico knows the importance of a border. They just pretend that they are victims when we try to do a fraction of what they do at their southern border. We are not Mexico’s welfare program. Nothing is forced to improve in Mexico because they let the $h!t flow up north as a release valve. So we are supposed to turn into a hole too? What then? Sneak into Canada?

  10. @WhoaKaela even if …
    @WhoaKaela even if you have the money, there are quotas and there are waiting lists. it can take years to get a green card and many more years to get citizenship. meanwhile if your children are starving because cheap gringo corn imports destroyed your family farm, what do you do? tell them to wait a few years and eat dirt?

  11. @jpwolf5 exacly! …
    @jpwolf5 exacly! that’s the big problem, too many people in the U.S. are willing to give up liberty (or the liberty of their browner and/or poorer countrymen), in exchange for safety.. and it’s not even real safety, it’s an illusion of safety that cynical politicians pretend to be creating so that they can get votes from their ignorant constituents.

  12. @WORLDARYANREVIVAL …
    @WORLDARYANREVIVAL sorry to break it to ya but most of the people demonstrating, including myself, are citizens of the good ol’ U.S. of A.

    also, Mexico only mistreats the undocumented from other poor countries. us rich gabacho folks have no trouble. you get a small fine if they catch you without an entrance stamp past the border zone. that’s the whole problem – borders separate the poor from those lucky enough to b born citizens of a rich country.

  13. @Majorsushifan what …
    @Majorsushifan what do u think happens? have u ever even been 2 Mexico? as an American, not much. if u don’t go past the border zone (21 kilometers in, usually), nada happens. if u do, they charge you a small fine. it’s no big deal. now if you’re a poor Guatemalan or other non-mexican, true, they do some bad things. but us rich gringo folk have no trouble. that’s the whole problem – borders separate the poor from those lucky enough to b born citizens of a rich country.

  14. @Aeschylus ah, …
    @Aeschylus ah,thanks, i had not seen that poll. but note that it says “After being asked about the laws provisions, 59% say that, considering everything, they approve of Arizonas new illegal immigration law while 32% disapprove.”
    I also saw a poll by the New York Times/CBS News, which says that “82% of Americans consider it either very or somewhat likely that the Arizona law would lead to people of certain racial groups being singled out.”

  17. @RedEyePergo Sorry …
    @RedEyePergo Sorry to inform you about this, but not all illegal immigration is a crime. Some forms of illegal immigration can be considered a civil offense, just like what it is when we get caught speeding. And unless you want to call people who speed, jay walk, loiter, etc. criminals, then that’s up to you. In the end, the only one who can decide if they are criminals or civil offenders is an immigration judge, not regular xenophobics, racists, or ignorant civilians. ;)

    @moofassa22 WELL SAID!! FINALLY SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN ON THIS ISSUE!

  19. @RedEyePergo

    PSST. …
    @RedEyePergo

    PSST… If you don’t want them here tell your employers to stop hiring them!

    To be honest, more than half of the problem are the asshats that give them jobs in the first place. The law needs to start clamping down harshly on employers who hire any illegal for anything at all. And I’m not just talking fines either.

    Start throwing contractors, restaurant owners and anyone who picks up a day laborer in jail. When the illegal jobs are gone, the illegal immigration will stop.

  20. @guyv00 illegal …
    @guyv00 illegal immigration is a crime. and 17 percent of people entering illegally are drug trafficers and murderers. so that would definitely be police jurisdiction.

    they are ruining arizona and the entire u,s, economically when they do not pay taxes yet reap the rewards of our systems such as welfare , medical excetra.

    and they work for wages that almost no citizens will work for. this drives down wages nation wide and hurts all working class citizens.

    2. Where did the poll take place?

    ‘Cause it’s easy stating % but if you know jack about it…well…

    @Aeschylus 70% according to a widely known right-wing polling company, Rasmussen Reports.
