  3. Kerala enjoys unique geographical features that have made it one of the most sought after tourist destinations in Asia.
The must-see things include – Backwaters, beaches, houseboats or kettuvallams, wildlife, hillstations, Lakswadweep islands, resorts, tree-houses etc..

The backwaters of Kerela is a unique product of Kerala and is found nowhere else in the world. The largest backwater stretch in Kerela is the Vembanad Lake which flows through three districts and opens out into the sea at the Kochi Port. The Astamudi lake, literarlly having eight arms, which covers a major portion of Kollam district in the south, is the second largest and is considered the gateway to the backwaters.
The most exciting thing on the backwaters of Kerela, however, is the kettuvallom ( traditional houseboat ).

Munnar Hills, Ramakalmedu, Rajamala, Vagamon, Pullumedu, Chellarkovil, Vandiperiyar and Pattumala offer some of the most picturesque and panoramic view of the Western Ghats are is a must for nature lovers.

Kerela has a 600 km long shoreline dotted with some of the finest, most charming beaches of the world, coconut groves, natural harbors, lagoons and sheltered coves. The main beach resorts are in Kovalam beach, Poovar Beach, Shanghumugham Beach, Varkala Beach, Alappuzha Beach, Cherai Beach, Fort Kochi Beach and finaly Kappad which is the historic beach where Vasco da Gama landed.

Other places not to miss are Cochin, Guruvayoor and Wayanad.. especially the famous Guruvayoor Elephant Sanctuary (Punnathur kotta) which has the world’s largest number of bull-elephants under one roof..

There are also 12 wildlife sanctuaries throughout the state which houses numerous kinds of exotic animals..

There are also immense number of temples to visit, top of it being the Guruvayoor Temple, the Padmanabhaswamy temple in Trivandrum and the Ernakulam Shiva Temple in Cochin..

One of the world’s most spectacular tropical island systems, Lakshadweep is 220-240 kms off the Malabar Coast. Each island here is fringed by snow white coral sands. The crystal clear water and the rich marine flora and fauna enhance the mystique of these islands and have to be visited..

The Tree Houses of Kerala are ethnic houses built on trees with all basic facilities located in 500 acres of pristine verdant tropical rainforest in Wayanad Sanctuary, North Kerala. Access to the Tree House (86 feet above from the ground level) by an indigenous cane lift is worked by a unique counter weight of water. Each Kerala Tree Houses has a Double bed with an attached bathroom with flushing toilette, telephone shower, wash basin with running water, carpeted veranda and sit-out. The Kerala Tree House is designed and made with ethnic materials using local craftsmen, local materials and indigenous techniques used by the early inhabitants. The tribals are extensively involved with the construction and maintenance of the Tree houses. Its something quite unique.

For relaxation there are numerous Ayurvedic spas thoroughout the state. There are a lot more places to see but in a span of just 8 days those will be impossible to cover…
