How can I renew my tourist visa to Turkey?
My three-month (does this mean an exact 90 days, by the way, or the same date three months later?) Turkish tourist visa expires in about three or four weeks and I want to renew it. From what I gather, I’ll probably have to do a "visa run" and go to another country and come back and get a new visa. My question is, do I have to do this on the exact date that my visa is set to expire and come back after it’s expired, or can I do it a few days or a week or two earlier and just get a new visa then?
Also, what is the easiest and/or cheapest way to do a visa run from western Turkey (not İstanbul, but close)? Detailed answers will be highly appreciated. Thanks much.
P.S. Does "any embassy" mean a Turkish embassy or an American embassy or what? I’m from the U.S., by the way, if that’s relevant.
P.P.S. Please leave the fighting and insults at the door. I’m here looking for information and don’t really care what you think of each other’s "accents." Thanks again.

Here’s the 411 on the cheapest way to do this:
I’ve used Metro Bus Company. Buy a ticket to Svalingrad, Bulgaria (via Kapıkule customs gate), leaving at 8 pm or 8:30 (check schedules). Tell the bus attendant that you are making the border run, and she will tell you where to get off and where to catch the bus back (which comes within 20 minutes of being dropped off). You’ll arrive at the border around 11 pm. Follow her instructions, flag the return bus, and buy a ticket from the border (slightly cheaper than a round trip from Svalingrad, but you could buy a round trip ticket in Istanbul to be on the safe side). There’s a duty-free shop there, if you’d like to stock up.
You’ll head back across the border after midnight (hence getting the necessary two different dates stamped in the passport). You’ll get back to Istanbul around 6 am.
You can do this before your visa is set to expire–in fact, I would recommend it, as you have pointed out, the 90 days/three months is ambiguous. Better to be safe than pay a 300-YTL fine.
