  3. Tourism brings good and bad things, pollution from all the Tourist buses particularly where we are in London. And many places are now trying to limit how many visitors because of the impact of litter and pollution on ancient buildings and landmarks. Good, i guess it brings money into many places economies and in fact i think that many tourists keep the west end theatre land going as they seem to be the bulk of people who watch these shows. Personally i wish there weren’t so may here in London. I find trying to vie to get somewhere quite hard, but there you are that’s just me.

  4. tourists also want to take mementos home with them to remind them of their trip… i know that in the case of Uluru [the most famous rock of Australia] tourists used to chip pieces off to take with them- this cause a lot of damage and now you can’t get too close to Uluru or climb on it. tourists can cause a lot of biological damage.

  5. Hi

Best of luck with your geography studies, I always enjoyed that subjcet at school.

My ideas as below, hope they help.

Positive impacts of tourism on an area –
    - Jobs provision
    - Economic knock on effect throughout whole local econony
    - Local businesses benefit
    - Inmigration of workers and visitors who may stay, hence boosting population numbers
    - Publicity for area
    - Could earn revenue for local councils through tourist tax
    - Public transport improves to meet visitor needs, which benefits

negative impact of tourism on the area

    - Stretches infrastructure / roads (a classic example of this is the Loch Lomond roadside near Glasgow on a bank holiday Monday).

    - Jobs may be very seasonal and low paid (typically, hotel work, shops or tourist attractions).

    - Environment may be damaged. especially in a senstive environment such as mountains (often the debate in french alps as new areas are developed for skiing with lifts/ gondolas being fitted).

    - Numbers of visitors may lead to overcrowding (another example of this is Lake District, some of the joy is actually ruined by the number of visitors).

    - Monetary benefit may be confined to specific businesses or very small area (sure the economic benfit from Euro-Disney is mostly cofined to Disney corp? )

    - Local house prices may be pushed up by visitors wanting to buy second homes, or people investing in homes for rental. This means that locals cannot afford to buy homes in their own area.

I think this is actually quite an interesting question and sure you will get some answers to help you.

    Cheers
    MGB

  6. In 1996, my wife and I went on a cruise.
One port of call was Cozumel, an island off Mexico.
    This was so beautiful.
Our ship was docked about 5 miles from the main town, where I noticed the water was crystal clear.
The ship needed 40 feet of water to dock safely, yet we could see the bottom ofthe sea as if it was a giant aquarium… beautiful.
The taxis lined up, but we decided to walk into town.. good excercise and nothing was forcing us to get there quickly.
Anyone we met as we walked was polite in a nodding way, that is they carried on with what they were doing, and let us continue unharrassed.
The town was quaint, had plenty of bargains and nothing was too much trouble for any of the vendors… so much so that we both expressed a desire to return.
    We did… 4 years later!
This time, there were 5 ships docked right outside the town centre, all sorts of shops had sprung up and the place was like Blackpool on a busy day.
Prices had gone through the roof!
Almost every step of the way we were harrassed… "please… come into my shop.. we have bargains… one such was a 3 carat sapphire for ONLY 5,000US$!
We had purchased one one year earlier for 300US$ complete with 18 carat gold setting tailor made for us, so the difference in price was laughable!
The waters around were polluted, the beautiful scenery had been replaced by many ugly buildings, the naivity of the vendors had been replaced by a hard nosed business approach.
There was also repeated warnings of bag snatchers working the town.
We had to queue for everything, including the toilets!
How much do want to go back there?

  8. well I’m just gonna point this out since I saw your question and I this this is horrifying in some countries

its kinda weird and awkward but yet terrifying/shocking, and I find it really disturbing *gross*

There are countries with corruption, and I’m just gonna go straight to the point. Some countries have bandits drugging tourists and then taking them somewhere where they steal their organs like liver, heart, lungs, kidneys…

I’m pretty sure 3 out of 4 Americans (I’m Norwegian so 84% of Norwegians are healthy, few poor people in Norway) are healthy, therefore if… lets say a hospital gets in a tourist with a broken leg they might steal their organs as well mabye because they needed it to sell it or lets say mafia paid the hospital to give a person an organ transplant

so yeah theres a lot more freaky than that but thats just something I get gross of and it would be good for those who are stealing but It is illegal and wrong, they steal the organs from living people, my self I’m just terrified by the thought

So I think that and the whole thing about countries being in corruption is something important on tourism, definitely something that should be made a stop on
