How do you calculate how much revenue is generated by a tourism campaign?
When i read in the news that a tourism campaign has generated 100 million dollars in tourism in Australia – how do they know that, and how do they calcualte it?
The immigration bureau of the country reports the number of tourist arrivals. If you will notice in your embarkation card that you fill up when you enter the country you fill up a classification if your visit is business or as a tourist the embarkation card also ask you where you are staying some stay in homes of friends and families other stay in hotels. The number of arrivals and classification of the visitors is encoded in a computer. At the end of the year the number of tourist visitors is recorded. There is normally a formula how much each tourist spends in shopping, hotel accommodation, food, drinks sight seeing, travel to other parts of the country. All of these expenses are summed up and multiplied by the number of tourist visitors and you have an estimate of how much income was generated from tourist arrivals
