Bangkok Tourism Card?
February 242010
1) Is there a Bangkok Tourism Card with discounts or a Bangkok Government guide + map showing all the possible tourist sites for seeing in Bangkok and discounts on entry?
2) Does the Bangkok Tourism Office at the airport have any information for tourists?
3) Why is the Thailand tourism website so rubbish?
"1) Is there a Bangkok Tourism Card with discounts or a Bangkok Government guide + map showing all the possible tourist sites for seeing in Bangkok and discounts on entry?"
The one thing you should get information on is the VAT refund procedures. If you’re taking goods you bought from Thailand out of the country, you will be entitled to a refund.
2) Does the Bangkok Tourism Office at the airport have any information for tourists?
It should most certainly have a guide office. If you can’t find it for some reason most of the hotels I’ve stayed at have a tour desk & literature. You will also find no shortage of tourism offices located in major tourist areas.
3) Why is the Thailand tourism website so rubbish?"
Things move slower in Thailand:)
A general overview of Bangkok can be found here: http://www.hoteltravel.com/thailand/bangkok/guides/overview.htm
My personal recommendations:
Wat Po
Grand Palace
Wat Arun
Cruise on the Chao Praya River (the dinner cruise is also nice)
A day trip to Ayutthaya (old temples)

1. There was one, cost? USD 50,000 or so. http://www.thailandelite.com/membership.php So it’s not really worth it unless you live there.
2. Maybe, I have found everything I need online. Bangkok.com is good and there are others. See http://www.thaiwebsites.com under travel and the sites listed is very current.
3. You will find this true for many hotel websites, why? They don’t have the time nor the experience to keep it up. So for many hotels, they use discounters to advertise their hotels.
