What are some cultural misunderstandings that happen in the tourism industry?
Hi, I am a year 11 high school student and today was my first day of taking the Tourism class at the school. I just moved to this school and all the other classes were full so while I’m not really interested in the subject I thought I should still put in my best efforts.
So our first assessment is that we have to role play to the class two things.
One is a cultural misunderstanding that may happen if you travel to Australia from another country or you are an Australian travelling to another country.
What are some cultural misunderstanding that happen in the tourism industry?
Thank you!
the main challenges are local/ethnic protocol….
for example in the middle east or with someone from the middle east – always remove your sunglasses when speaking to someone face to face and never hand someone something or accept something with your left hand.
in every country there are things that are acceptable or not in each culture.
I think that one of the biggest cultural misunderstandings about Australia is Vegemite. One of my ex girlfriends is from Perth and she loves the stuff she couldn’t get it here(Ontario Canada)regularly so her mum would send her some every couple of weeks.
