Seaside Development – Equity Weekly, Main part 2, Show # 68
Many of the Cambodian Islands and sea shore was largely unknown until the last few years. But today, almost all islands have been leased for tourism development. National parks are being reamed for profit while developers say they protect the natural assets. This is a sequence extracted from the Equity Weekly TV show #68, broadcast on 14/12/08, produced by UNDP and TVK, with support from SIDA, AusAid, Canadian International Development Agency and Irish Aid as part of the SDEP (Strengthening Democracy and Electoral Processes in Cambodia) project of UNDP CAMBODIA. Nah, I would love …
Nah, I would love to see development at Cambodian seaside but local should not be the victims of the development.
I see some big 5 stars hotel built on the beach and the public beach is contracting. I don’t support this kind of development.
Having travelled …
Having travelled extensivly in SE Asia, I was planning a trip to this area. However, because of the heavy handed way the authorities are dealing with the residents and the plans for development, I will no not be going. When I visit a national park I expect it to be that. Natural and protected. Not a golf course and rich tourists with local people excluded. Shame on you, Cambodia, for treating your people and land in such a manner.
