Newfoundland Tourism Commercial

January 182010

CapeRace™ Cultural Adventures is a boutique tour operator specializing in experiential travel, located on Canadas most eastern island of Newfoundland.

In 2004 we introduced our first tour, the “Eco-Culture Experience”. This spring, the package was chosen by the editors of National Geographic Traveller as the “Tour of a Lifetime” for 2008, based on a criteria of authenticity, seasoned expertise, sustainability, unprecedented access, and local connections.

We base our travel principles on the newly emerging geotourism concepts. Geotourism is defined by National Geographic as tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place—its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents. Geotourism incorporates the concept of sustainable tourism—that destinations should remain unspoiled for future generations—while allowing for enhancement that protects the character of the locale. We have integrated these ideas and concepts into our overall approach.

One Planet Tourism, a film by the Cornwall Sustainable Tourism Project (CoaST)

January 132010

Welcome to our CoaST film! The film is a collaboration project between CoaST Ambassadors, CoaST Members and our filmakers James Ellwood and Matt Pontin. We hope you enjoy it and if you have any queries please contact us, see the end of the film for our contact details. So, what do we do? We work with everyone (from cake-makers to photographers, campsites to recycling collectors, community groups, hotels, colleges, universities, beach cafes, designers and beer brewers) to ensure tourism delivers social, economic and environmental benefit for all, as well as a fantastic holiday for all our visitors. We started in Cornwall; and we’ve gone viral, with members collaborating on our on-line One Planet Tourism network from across more than 50 counties. It’s all about One Planet Tourism: tourism operating within its environmental, social and economic means, and providing environmental, social and economic benefit. Where-ever you’re based, where you are is a fantastic place to visit, to live and to work; it’s even better when we do it within our resources. And we absolutely believe that as there isn’t one single way of making everything right overnight, that every single small thing adds up to make that big difference.

Small steps. Big impact. And that takes us towards One Planet Tourism. As one member says, it now involves us all working together – Way Beyond Tourism.

A sustainable tourism industry: one hotel, one campsite, one boat-ride, one meal, one journey, one visitor, one holiday at a time. Which means all businesses, and groups, and communities, from all tourism and non-tourism sectors, working collectively. And our job at CoaST is to try and help that happen. By collaboration, and collective clout.
