Tourism is an industry. It focuses on unique qualities and characteristics of places. The industry is making a product of these different "images". An image can be; the romantic atmosphere of Niagara Falls, Grand Canyon’s majestic looks, The casinos of Las Vegas, The nature of Alaska etc. Any kind of stereotypical trade about a place.
In fact, the producers/salesmen of these images are dependent that these qualities and characteristics are maintained. After all, this is what they are selling. As consumers of these places, we as tourists, have expectations towards these places. It is what we want to see and experience.
The thing about places is that they are always changing. In this process these core qualities and characteristics can erode. The original meaning of these places will then disappear, and the people that are selling these places can no longer maintain their "production".
In this sense tourism is often not sustainable. Lets say you want to go skiing in Aspen, but they have too little snow. Or, you want to go for a glacier walk, and the glaciers are retreating, therefore being unsuitable for people to walk on them. Maybe you want to go to visit historical buildings in a city, but the area is filled with crime etc. Places change because of natural, social and cultural processes. These will eventually change basis for touristic activity. At some point in time this is very likely to occur.
Honey Pot? I do not know what you mean by that.
