Sustainable tourism is very important because it brings new money into an area. If you want to grow, you need to find a source of capital. When you have something that attracts people they will spend money when they come to visit.
Sustainable tourism also means that the infrastructure of the local economy is set up to support the tourism. For example, if you have an incredible lake that just cries out for visitors and yet there is no way to get to it because the roads are not built, then people will not come consistently. If you have a rodeo but do not provide parking and food concessions, people will stay away. If you have a professional sports team in your town but the seats of the arena are broken, the roof leaks, the paint is peeling, the food is stale, and there is no climate control… people will not come.
Sustainable tourism is the entire area recognizing the need for the tourism and demonstrating a willingness to invest in whatever it takes to make it happen.
because it brings in outside $$$ for the place being visited, and makes jobs for people who are willing to pander to tourists needs like Taxi’s Hotels, Restuarants, ect….

Probably because if you live in a tourism economy and your tourism is not sustainable, your economy will be unstable and you will not be able to build any real infrastructure (schools, museums, improved roads, clean water, etc).
This is why locations that only have a heavy tourist economy during a very small part of the year (Alaska) have a harder time developing an economy around tourism than areas that have a pemanent tourist economy (Hawaii).
