How does tourism affect circular flow in an economy?

I’m under the impression that an economy that did not previously have an international sector would develop one as a result of tourism. Because aren’t tourists considered an import? I just need help understanding how adding tourism to an economy changes the overall circular flow of the economy.
Okay, the tourism acting as more of an export than a import makes sense. And arin, I live in Seminole about 10 min from Treasure Island so it was cool that you could bring the concept home for me.

CIRCULAR FLOW: Foreign tourists spend money and that money generates higher incomes, which is then spent by individuals on more products and services, meaning more income for businesses, meaning higher incomes, etc.

IMPORTS? tourism money acts more like exports than imports, since a country is selling its resources (natural beauty) and services (hotels, restaurants) in return for foreign money.

What are the hindrances in development of tourism in India?

December 292009

Hi I have to make a project on hindrances in development of tourism in India. Please help

The following are some of the hinderances;

1) Poor Infrastructure – India’s airports, railway stations, roads, are not at par with even asian developing countries like china, malaysia, thailand, UAE, etc. The shabby state of our infrastructure puts off potential tourists, as well as companies wanting to invest in tourism related projects.

2) Poor Development of potential tourist spots: This has to do with poor infrastructure as well as bad government policies. Poor infrastructure puts off tourism projects. For example a Disneyland, a great tourist attractor, is coming up in Dubai simply because it has world-class infrastructure even though its is an Islamic country. Dubai has seen exponential growth in tourism simply becasue of some great man-made tourism projects. Government should give incentives and create laws to rapidly improve infrastructure.

3) Poor governance and mismanagement at tourist spots: Example; Almost all our pilgrimage places hold great historical importance. They have great historical stories attached to them and they can be a great way to showcase/ promote indian culture. But such places are almost always too overcrowded, repete with dirt, filth and are unorganized. Stampedes are testimony to such mismanagement. Maybe we could have audio visual halls at such places to make tourists aware of the historical importance, Its all there but its unorganized and mismanaged. Easy local transportation, good hygienic food, clean and affordable lodging, & efficient man-management can vastly improve the attractiveness of tourist spots.

4) Savvy Marketing: Perhaps this is the most important thing. A lot of the times it is about perception of the places. This can only be resurrected through savvy marketing of Indian tourist destinations. For exmple Kerala’s tourism marketing campaign "God’s own country" vastly improved its inflow of tourists.

5) Safety and Security: Since childhood I have been hearing about terrorism in Kashmir. It seems I will never be able to visit kashmir in my lifetime. News about bomb blasts, stampedes, terrorism, and/or petty cimes puts off tourists. This cannot be resolved overnight but requires strong political will in the long run

What environmental, cultural and economical impact has tourism made in Europe and the USA?

December 292009

Please list some things. Even one good answer is helpful!

Environmental impact – both, positive and negative.
Negative is because tourists damages environment, nature etc. a bit but it often is compensated by positive effects.
Positive is that then tourists spend money they finance environment-care, nature support, environment-friendly investments etc.

Cultural impact is in general positive because people exchange knowledge, customs, to attract tourists local people often learn their traditions to show for the tourists.

Economical is positive for sure – tourists generate income.

How can I find information about tourism in europe (spain)?

December 292009

My sister and I want to go Spain, and we do not know how to start looking for any places we would like to visit.

Are there groups of people that travel together as a tourist?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks

There are lots of websites with information about destinations in Spain. Such as: http://www.tourspain.org/ , http://www.tripadvisor.com/tourism-g187427-Spain-Vacations.html
http://www.spain.info/TourSpain/Home?Language=en , http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/guides/europe/spain/overview.html ,

When you’ve narrowed it down to specific places that you might be interested in, you can search for those specific cities/regions using the name and keywords like "sightseeing".

Many companies offer tours in Europe – including in Spain either by itself or in combination with other countries.

what is the difference between sustainable tourism and ecotourism?

December 292009

there is no difference really, they are both mistaken concepts. no person needs to be a tourist anymore with such a vast array of media options to view and virtual experience anything the world has to offer. tourism by its very nature is a self serving beast, we go somewhere because we want to and can afford to, simply for our own enjoyment. Now i’m not against that, i love my holidays totally and feel like i earned them, but, to call it eco or sustainable is just putting a guilt gloss over the fact that to go somewhere near or far just because you can is not justifiable. Put a climate change spin on it though and the operators can charge more and the "tourist" feels less guilty. Its all a bit crass i think.
